Monemvasia

The Μedieval fortress of Monemvasia was once a major port of commerce during the middle ages. The city was successively ruled by the Venetians and Ottomans after the fall of the Byzantine Empire. Buildings within Monemvasia, a cultural heritage monument, have been carefully rebuilt under strict restoration rules. Today, visitors can access the "Gibraltar of the East" by the relatively recently constructed bridge and tour both levels of the ancient walled-in city touching and feeling the centuries past.

Tucked-away in the folds of a lush hillside with privileged views of Castle’s Rock of Monemvasia, the superbly restored Byzantine-era mansion blends magically into the surrounding vineyards, olive and citrus groves. The design of the hotel has taken cues from the building’s long history and includes iconic design items. The gourmet restaurant uses the finest organic ingredients, the spa offers a purifying traditional ottoman hammam. The hotel is completed by its signature swimming pool which begins as a brook and grows to run like a river through the centuries-old orange trees.
